Omaha Parks and Recreation Guide
Omaha is home to over 220 parks with additional land devoted to parks that feature sports, BMX bike tracks, dog parks, skating parks, skeet ranges and children’s playgrounds. Additional park amenities include tennis courts, boating, camping, swimming, walking, jogging and biking trails. Omaha offers free admission to many of its park facilities, unless there are special family events such as weddings, anniversary celebrations or birthday parties.
Elmwood Park
Elmwood Park is one of Omahas largest community parks in its downtown area. Elmwood Park is a large 216.4 acre landscape of trees, plants and gardens. Warren Buffett invested in the park by having a golf course added. University of Omaha students enjoy Elmwood Park as a recreational and study environment. Elmwood Park is a year-round park which has been lauded for displaying classical plays including the Shakespeare on the Green series. A beautiful footbridge runs through the park, connecting Elmwood Park to Omaha’s Memorial Park, the University and the Dundee neighborhood. Gallagher Park
Gallagher Park is an 18 acre community park located in the Benson community next to Benson High School. The park’s operating hours are Monday through Thursday, from noon to PM and noon to 5PM Friday through Sunday. Gallagher Park has a community pool, a water slide, water sports, swimming classes, full service picnic areas and a community center with rooms for special events and parties. Registrations are taken for swimming lessons, pool parties and swim teams. Bemis Park
Bemis Park is a part of the historical section of Omaha, which contains homes of varied architectural styles from Queen Anne to neo-classical. The homes were originally built between 1906 and the 1920’s, but have since been upgraded. The Bemis District has been designated as an Omaha Landmark. Bemis Park is a central focus of the neighborhood with its 10 acres of land that has been sectioned off for a playground with climbing structures and sand boxes. Walking paths lead from the park into the Bemis community, along tall trees and manicured gardens. Tennis courts, picnic pavilions and a covered shelter are located throughout the park. Miller Park
Residents living in the communities on Redick and Kansas Avenue, as well as 24th and 39th Streets, enjoy this community park with its vast amenities and attractions. Miller Park includes various trails, a lagoon, picnic areas, lake, a mini par-three golf course, a beautiful flowing fountain, soccer fields, a playground, baseball field and the popular Miller Park Pavilion. The pavilion is two stories tall with a wrap-around porch. The Miller Park Pavilion is open year round, located in the center of this 78 acre park. The pavilion is designed with space for business meetings, a fully equipped kitchen, full bar and large spaces for special event setups. In the warmer months, there is a water park located in the southeastern corner of the park. The water park has a small fee of $4.75 for adults and $3.75 for seniors and children.
