Today we are thrilled to be joined by Lisa and Liz from Rearranged for Change. They are a home staging and interior design company, and they are going to talk to us today about how to properly stage your living room. Even if you aren’t planning on selling, these tips are extremely useful if you’re looking to spruce up your space.
The first step is finding a room you like, whether it is at someone else’s house, in a magazine, or online. Then, it’s time to shop for some decorations and furniture. Lisa and Liz love Nebraska Furniture Mart’s large selection, as well as Home Goods, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Pottery Barn. Lisa and Liz say when shopping to only get one thing at a time.
The next step is putting the stuff in the room. First remove all the items from the room except for the furniture, and place it in its proper position. You want to pay close attention to the focal points in the room.
The second layer is adding lamps and drapes to your design. Most of the time we like to have three lamps, two on either side of the couch, and one next to a chair. The aim is to form a triangle with these items.
Next, place your art pieces. Maybe have one over the sofa and one over the mantel. Typically, we like to use a piece of art with a clock and a mirror. That works really well together.
The final step is the most fun, and that’s adding accessories. Pillows, candles, greenery, trays, and more can be added to a room as a finishing touch. Sometimes, the simpler the better.
These ladies do staging consultations on a daily basis, so they know how to make your home look its best. If you have any questions, you can reach Lisa or Liz or visit them online.
