A question we’ve received time and time again is, “Am I better off buying a resale, new construction, or spec home?” I’ll answer that today.
The answer to whether buyers should build a new home or buy an existing one is simple: it’s always a matter of preference. For most, the decision rests on price. In an apples-to-apples size comparison between an existing and new property, you can count on paying 15% to 20% more with a new build. Some are willing to pay that little extra because new construction is simply more to their liking.
Still, there are those that buy existing because of the area’s surrounding amenities: the school district, the neighborhood being established, parks, shopping, etc.
As we settle into 2019, we’re seeing spec homes start to crop up, so I’d recommend looking at some of those.
