4 Key Items to Take Care of Before Moving Into Your New Home

Don’t overlook these four tasks when preparing to move into your new home.

If you’ve bought a new home, there are a few things you want to make sure you take care of before taking occupancy.

Start by making sure you get your new mail. No matter where you are, the United States Postal Service needs an address to reach you at, so make sure you update your new address with them. You can usually do this online and even provide the day or month you’ll be taking occupancy of your new home.

Next, make sure your trash service is lined up. If you’re not in the city limits and trash service isn’t provided for free, ask your agent to reach out to the seller to find out which trash service they used. Sometimes they can even leave their trash cans for you to use if you give them the necessary information.

Then, make sure your Internet service is lined up. Some neighborhoods only have one Internet option while others might have multiple options. There’s nothing more irritating than moving into your new home and not having Internet access! Similarly, you want to get your cable set up during the transition phase into your new home.

Finally, be sure you have your gas, water, and electricity set up. Most places around Omaha will use MUD for gas and water, with OPPD for electricity.

It sounds like a lot, but it’s not nearly as challenging or time-consuming as you might think. You can take advantage of your agent to make sure all these things are taken care of at the right time, as well.

If you have any other questions about preparing for your new home or you’re thinking of buying or selling real estate here in Omaha, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email soon. I’d love to help you!
